Stuck in Blaine, Wa. Our ocean bound recreational people mover had a broken water pump.
America. Nuff Said.

Hanging with my old man, driving boats and drinking beer. San Juan Islands, Wa.
Washington State Round 1. Waiting on the ferry to take off. Some coastal birds.
I spent about a week in and around Westcliffe again, and tried to hike Bushnell (see below). This pic was taken during a quick overnighter on Music Pass. These lakes create the stream that flows through the Sand Dunes. This is looking west at La Tijeras Peak.
On the Death March, Bushnell Peak. Thats Berto and some state flowers.

From one walkabout to the next. This was 9/2/09 in the morning. Me and Berto set out on our second attempt of Bushnell Peak. Some fires were raging in California, so some high smoke gave me this filter, at about 6 in the morning. Bushnell is a decent climb, and sadly, we didnt make it.
Where I spent some early hours on the morning of my 24th year in existence. The top of ...(a peak i should know..) Atleast it was a 13'er and i gotta do it all alone. I got paid for this.Day hike with the kids, this is Crystal Lake. Near Breck.
RMSEL 8/09 Hut Trip 2, The name of the hut is in the picture this was trip two. Getting paid to hang with highschool kids in the mountains, someone has to do it.
RMSEL Hut Trip 8/09. I was employed by my old highschool to co-lead two 4-day trips to different backcountry mountain huts in Colorado. This is looking south from some mountain.... a 12'er that i should know the name of. We woke the kids up early and climbed this peak..
While stuck in Westcliffe, I was able to convince a local to drive us someplace, and Lake DeWeese(Actually a resevoir.) was a viable option. Considering the proximity to my summertime office, I hadnt yet visited DeWeese. It was kinda crowded, but for being free, its a good spot.
Around the end of the summer, i found me and my truck broke down in Westcliffe, Co. With the Sangre De Cristo mountain range as a backdrop, I could have had alot worse places to be stuck in. So, lacking a backpack, I threw together this customized hippie " hobo bag on the end of a stick," and set off. With a combination of hitchhiking, walking and wearing this thing as a backpack I rapidly found my way in to some wilderness, Hermit Lakes.
Rafting '09. This is a rapid known as, at very similar flows, the CHUNDER-DOME. Many will enter, few will leave in boat. We had a wonderful high-water year on the Arkansas river. This pic is my co-workers in a race. I was supposed to go, but the race was supposed to be in the ROYAL GORGE! (I wont go into details.) Needless to say, i did not want to paddle a buncha flat water. (with the exception of the Chunder Dome, which has my utmost respect.)
FIBArK 2009 Baby!!!!! This is a classic event held on the third weekend of June every year in Salida. The event started in the '50s when a couple people wanted to race an unheard of distance on the river, starting right there in Salida. Over the years the event has transformed into a ginat summertime party with rafting, kayaking, running, cycling, build your own boat, etc. Oh, and there is Beer. This is the raft rodeo where the competitors try to chunder themselves in a hole.
Waterdog Lake, Monarch Pass, near Salida. 5/09. Easy 45min-1hr.
Nuff Said. May 2009 Little Dolores Camp.
Westwater 5/09
Classic Colorado River through Westwater canyon scenery.
Yup, Another Westwater. These trips have become my fall and spring pilgrimage. Everything else is either dried up or hasnt started running yet. The ultimate 1-4 day desert overnighter. Word 'em up.
